Where I Get My Plus Size Fashion Ideas

I used to wander around the web, not having a single clue where to find style ideas and fashion advice. Why? Cause I’m big! Not that I have a problem with being big – I love it. But it can be a drag sometimes not to be able to get any tips on what looks great with these curvy curves here. Well, one of my favorite fashion blogs is fashionbombdaily.com. Not only because they have super cool style tips, but also because they have a dedicated blog for big girls.

I just LOVE how they openly discuss stuff like “Why Should Size Matter” or “Big Girls – Hot or Not!”. So ladies, give it a shot!

Big and Beautiful: It’s Knowing What You’re About

If you’re plus size and feeling a bit down about it, I’m sure “It’s what’s on the inside that counts” is one of the last things you might want to hear. Believe me, I know. I’ve been there. And I hate to break it to you, but sadly, it IS true. It’s not just some clichéd Hallmark stuff, or as the joke goes, something that only ugly people say to make themselves feel better. There IS truth to that statement, and today I’m making it my mission to show you how and why big is beautiful

Adele - Big and Beautiful

It’s All in Your Head!

Let me start off by saying I’m overweight as well, and yes, I too used to have those moments when I feel down and wish I was skinny and could fit into a size 2 dress. I’m not gonna lie about that. BUT once I realized and truly believed (this bit is important) that size has nothing to do with beauty, I seriously just started caring less about what society found “beautiful” and started listening to what my friends and the people around me have been telling me all along – I am big, and I am beautiful.

I can go on and on about society’s perception of beauty, how media reinforces those concepts, statistics on bulimia and anorexia, etc, etc. But I won’t. Instead, I’ll just ask you to look at two famous women: supermodel Naomi Campbell and singer extraordinaire Adele. One is a supermodel and fits all the ideas of beauty an average person has, and one is an overweight and beautiful soulful singer.

What is Beauty Anyways?

Naomi, queen of the catwalk, is tall, skinny, has gorgeous skin, and she can wear whatever she likes and not even have to pay for it because designers would die to have her wear their clothes. She has the physical beauty, fame, and riches, but is she beautiful? If you think about it…I don’t think anyone would even give her a second look if not for her fame. People see her and think, “ohmygod, that’s Naomi” They don’t go “oh wow, that’s girl’s beautiful.” FACT.

Don’t Hate the Skinny – Love the Big!

Then you have Adele. She’s plus-size, beautiful, and overweight, has won multiple Grammy’s, and has been the subject of scrutiny of media people saying she has the makings to be REALLY big and famous if only she would lose weight. Know what Adele said to that? She said she loves seeing Lady Gaga and Katy Perry’s figures, but it’s not what her music is about. And more importantly, that she doesn’t make music for eyes, she makes music for EARS.

So what am I saying here? It’s not about hating skinny girls, it’s never about that. It’s knowing what you’re really and truly about. Because honestly, if you think your looks are the most important thing in your life, then I’m sorry but you don’t and won’t really have anything going for you. Looks fade, we all know that. So if you’re big and overweight and you keep trying to be skinny ONLY because you think that is what’s beautiful, STOP. Stop living up to anyone’s expectations but yours, and you’ll realize why big is beautiful as long as you’re happy and confident with who you are.
